Dear Mr. Smith,
Upon consultation with the Steering Committee of the consortium of University and College Intensive English Programs (UCIEP) at our recent annual business meeting, I am pleased to inform you that UCIEP officially endorses the American International Education Foundation’s (AIEF) American Language Teacher Training Workshop in Taiwan. To be held on March 18th and 19th , 2005 at the Chinese Air Force Recreation Center in Taipei, the workshop is intended to assist in addressing the continuing need to provide professional development opportunities that enhance the teaching skills of English language teachers in Taiwan’s elementary and secondary schools.
Focusing on English as it is used and taught at U.S. institutions, the two-day workshop will introduce the latest trends and materials in ESL/EFL teaching, covering such topics as English for young learners, communicative speaking and listening activities for secondary students, as well as other practical subjects. Interactive teaching demonstrations will engage the participants in stimulating activities that can be adapted and applied immediately to their classroom environments.
UCIEP is an independent consortium of university and college-administered intensive English programs in the United States. Through its support of AIEF’s teacher training activities, UCIEP encourages the “advancement of professional standards and quality instruction in intensive English programs.”
As a sponsor of the American Language Teacher Training Workshop in Taiwan, UCIEP authorizes the American International Education Foundation (AIEF) to use its name and logo as part of the workshop’s promotional and other materials, including but not limited to invitations, flyers, posters and media announcements.
Thank you very much for your interest in UCIEP and for your support of our profession.
Yours truly,
David H. Quinn
UCIEP President 2004-2005
